Unpleasant urine smells cause one of the most intractable problems in washrooms, care homes and elsewhere. Urine tends to penetrate deep into unreachable areas, where bacteria break it down, releasing foul-smelling ammonia gas (NH3).
How do you get rid of this smell? Up to now, the simple answer has been: 'with great difficulty'. You can try more frequent cleaning, air-fresheners, harsh (and environmentally-harmful) cleansers but, despite everything, you can still smell urine. Why is this?
